THE COMMITAL REPUBLIC
Rule by the people
Project Type: Speculative Design

Policy Development
A design for a new type of government, which is inspired by the concept of pure democracy.
In other words, it is a theoretical experiment, exploring the possibilities of power in the hands of the people -- exercised to the extreme.
01
The Challenge
Can government be fool-proofed?
02
The Process
Government structures have been tumultuous throughout all of human history. This project was an experiment and imaginative exercise attempting to create a government format which could be effective, promote the voice of the people, and also contain the checks and balances essential to mitigate corruption.
During my brainstorming process, I conducted research analyzing government systems throughout history and across a variety of cultures, creating pro and con lists of each. I eventually concluded that while a democratic republic appeared to be the best option for a multitude of reasons, there were still many shortcomings which were evident in ancient cultures such as Greece and Rome, and in present-day nations like the U.S., France, and the U.K.. This eventually resulted in my decision to create an alternative Demcratic Society that prioritized the people's voice in it's most pure and unfiltered form.

The Result
The Commital Republic -- true rule by the people.

03a
Logistics
To visualize how this government would work, I created a graphic representation which illustrated the written framework outline I had initially created. The illustration allows an alternative simplified way to process the Commital Republic's system, making it convenient to see how each component functions from the bottom up.
04
The Outcomes
The Commital Republic provides an alternative imagining for a government structure different than those which have already existed. While it would require immense changes within our current world in order to be implemented in reality, it does enable a viewer to see the possibilities of a future where such a system were in place.
